There is a lot of false teachings about the dead. I will post the scriptures showing the truth. The teachings out there contradict the Bible. If you went to Heaven or Hell then why would there be a need for a resurrection? Genesis 3:19, Ecclesiastes 9:5, Ezekiel 18:4 Then these scriptures show what hope there is for our dead loved ones. John 5:28,29 ,Acts 24:15 . Take note of where God told Adam and Eve they would go when they died. Also take note of the mental condition of those who have died. Also notice that not only the righteous will be resurrected but the unrighteous also.
