Written by Lee Stevenson. Sorry I am a lousy editor.
This is not medical advice I have written the for educational purposes.
At the end of this I am going to briefly explain how someone can heal and how a person’s friends and family can help with the healing of the individual. Keep in mind if you are getting allopathic treatment then this article will be bleak for you because those getting allopathic treatment the outcome usually is not good. Those who seek the treatment of a functional medicine practitioner the outlook is much much better. Allopathic medicine is limited in the testing they do because they only know how to look at the symptoms and not the cause of illness. Functional medicine looks at the cause of illness so many of the test I mention in this article most will have never heard of them. If your medical practitioner does not know what these test are or what labs they can order them from then I would seek someone else it means they do not know enough to help you heal. It is becoming clearer and clearer most of the time if you chose allopathic you chose death and if you chose functional medicine you choose life.
You can heal from this. The keys are getting inflammation down, reducing oxidative stress and addressing whatever caused the illness and correcting any health issues caused. I have written this to help clarify why certain things happen and at the end I explain that there is a way out and you can heal. Something I do not mention is mold it can cause illness if a person is subjected to high levels and they have other health issues. It can lead to them developing sepsis, post sepsis or CIRS.
I am going to try and make the distinction between sepsis and post sepsis and explain how they contribute to long term illness and even mortality. The harm caused to the body from sepsis can take years to heal if the person who is ill does not have the proper guidance and treatment. Allopathic medicine only treats the symptoms they do not treat the cause so can only throw medications at the condition which eventually causes a person to become sicker while they feel better at first. Functional medicine addresses the causes of the illness. I am also going to discuss the causes of sepsis which there are many and infection is not the only cause. Something to take note of infants are being born with sepsis. If they parent has experienced vaccine injury , come in contact with toxins especially glyphosate, used antibiotics, medication, excess stress it can induce sepsis in the infant and they can be born with sepsis even vaginal dysbiosis can cause an infant to be born with sepsis so many who are now adults have some how managed to survive post sepsis and have dealt with it most of their lives. These ones can heal but it takes much more time and patience. For example glyphosate has been found to be very high in many infants and it has been found to be very harmful especially to a developing child. Functional medical practitioners are aware of sepsis and know how to deal with and prevent it to reduce the harm and speed up recovery.
Sepsis is one of the leading causes of death in the world. Post sepis is what occurs when a person survives sepsis. In sepsis the body is fighting to stay alive. It can result from infection, emotional trauma, depression, physical trauma, drug injury, vaccine injury, eating foods high in toxins such as GMOs, farm chemicals found in most foods and toxins added to foods. Sepsis usually occurs from more then one of those thing occurring . Many infants are in a state of post sepsis from parents who have been vaccine injured or from being vaccine injured as infants. In sepsis the body is fighting to stay alive so it shuts many things down and upregulates many other things. This is keeping the person alive but causes a lot of damage in the body and causes thrombosis which causes excess blood clotting and damage to blood vessels. The mortality rate for Sepsis is very high. In sepsis the adrenals get upregulated , the body starts causing the blood to clot, systemic inflammation and excess oxidative stress occurs. If the sepsis and cause of sepsis is not addressed the person has very little chance of surviving. Sepsis causes a hormone imbalance that is unique from post sepsis. In sepsis the adrenal hormones are very high in post sepsis the adrenals have become worn out and no longer function properly. It takes a very strict protocol to help recover from sepsis and post sepsis. If a person does not address what has caused their sepsis while they are in post sepsis they can slip back onto sepsis only this time it is much more dangerous because of the organ damage and tissue damage that has already occurred throughout the body. Infants born by C-section have a dramatic increased risk of acquiring sepsis because they do not receive the microbes that protect them from the mothers vaginal fluids. Infants who are breast fed have a dramatic decreased risk of sepsis. Studies have shown the sooner a mother starts breast feeding the less the risk is of the infant getting sepsis. The microbes that protect the child can be found if a person know where to look and has an experienced functional medicine practitioner.
Sadly when a child experiences sepsis from a vaccine the medical professionals lie and instead of reporting the adverse reaction to the vaccine they brush the parents concerns off or they will lie and tell them it is proof the vaccine is working. We also cannot rule out other causes of neonatal sepsis though. These are some of the symptoms of neonatal sepsis. These are the main symptoms but not all symptoms. If a child develops sepsis from vaccine injury it is up to the parent to report it. Mot medical professional do not know how to identify vaccine injury and the ones who do will not report it.
Not feeding will or frequent vomiting.
Fever or inability to properly regulate body temperature.
Rapid breathing or long pauses in breathing.
Pale appearance or a whole body rash.
Something else that occurs, sepsis can cause gut dysbiosis and gut dysbiosis can cause sepsis. The systemic inflammation cause our gut microbial makeup to change to an inflammatory one. This leaves things that normally would not enter the body enter the body such as endotoxins, heavy metals and environmental toxins and even food particles. This is why those with sepsis and post sepsis develop, high heavy metal levels and will have oxalate issues, food intolerance and food allergies. This is a cycle that becomes difficult to break because this also contribute to the systemic inflammation, immune dysfunction, and oxidative stress. This is why it is very very important to heal the gut when dealing with sepsis and post sepsis. Gut dysbiosis on it’s own can cause organ damage and failure and has been linked to diabetes, mental disorders and heart disease. When a person develops sepsis they also become more prone to infection increasing their risk of dying from sepsis or post sepsis. It is very important to replace the microbes lost, reduce inflammation and balance the immune system.
You can survive sepsis and post sepsis. It takes someone very knowledgeable in functional medicine. It takes very specific supplements and nutrients unique to each person. There is no one size fits all. If a person has post sepsis and has not addressed what caused their sepsis they could develop sepsis again and each time their risk of mortality increases because many organs are already damaged and struggling to function. When a person has post sepsis things such as the adrenal and many other hormones are low. I will not get into detail because it can get very complex.
When a person experiences Sepsis DAMPs, MAMPs, and PAMPs are released. These are danger signals that stimulate the immune system, systemic inflammation, and oxidative stress all these things contribute to damage in the body but also contribute to keeping a person alive by preventing the toxins, depression, infection or any other causative agents from killing the person. It is the bodies last ditch effort to survive. So to survive sepsis you need to address the causes. Also to try and prevent post sepsis the inflammation, oxidative stress, organ damage, metabolic and gene issues caused need addressed. A person who has survived go into a state of post sepsis. Usually the oxidative stress and systemic inflammation is still there but they have metabolic issues, organ issues, endocrine issues, and immune dis-regulation have to be addressed. If these things are not addressed chronic illness will start to occur and they will develop autoimmune diseases, digestive issues. Brain swelling occurs and needs addressed. The organ damage needs addressed. If the post sepsis is not corrected organ failure will occur and a person will start to develop things such as liver disease and kidney disease, interstitial cystitis and many many more illnesses. When it has reached the stage of causing organ damage it takes much much longer to correct. Notice inflammation is one of the key factors in causing the chronic illness. Reducing inflammation is key to healing.
Most allopathic medical professionals do not know how to identify or deal with sepsis but functional medicine practitioners have been trained to identify and address it. It is very important to distinguish between sepsis and post sepsis. What is good for treating sepsis may home someone with post sepsis. There are those who still have the issues that caused their sepsis so they will alternate between bouts of sepsis and bouts of post sepsis. Those are the most difficult to heal because with those one the little things are very very important. Ones who can still have a tendency to experience sepsis get set back very very easily. Things that would normally be beneficial like social interaction can really take it’s tolls on those who are still going back and forth between experiencing sepsis and post sepsis. When I was very ill it was surprised how even positive social interaction would set me back for days. The brain is so focused on healing the body and dealing with the pain and keeping track of healing and what needs to be done to heal that anything that takes more thought can set us back. I remember if I interacted on Facebook too much when I was very very ill it would really set me back and often times it was positive interactions, my Facebook friends would be encouraging me and teaching me. But combine the chronic illness , with the normal stresses of daily life and it gets overwhelming. This can increase the blood clotting and tax the adrenals which dramatically sets our health back. It also increases brain inflammation. So when in a state of sepsis or post sepsis we have to learn to listen to our bodies and our minds. It can be difficult because sometimes it is necessary to isolate ones self to let their brain and body recover. Little things are very very important like maintaining glucose and insulin levels, making sure we support our adrenals. Even though we may want to be sociable if our minds or our body is telling us not to do it then we need to find a way to listen to our bodies within reason. We do have certain family responsibilities but We also need to try our best to get our family to understand the harm of social interactions and others things may be causing us. These things are usually healing to the body when we are well but when in a state of sepsis or post sepsis the body is in survival mode so nothing is as it should be. Those experiencing sepsis or post sepsis often times look healthy, and will pretend to be healthy which I did often so they are responsible for some of the lack of understanding people have towards those who are chronically ill. These can be prevented and corrected with the correct guidance from someone knowledgeable in how to deal with these things.
Now I will cover the many ways that sepsis and post sepsis kills. They kill by causing damage to the organs, this is why those with sepsis and post sepsis die from organ failure, brain damage, but the most common cause of death during sepsis and post sepsis is heart failure. The inflammation and oxidative stress damages the organs including the heart and brain. It also causes excess blood clotting and excess blood vessel damage which often times leads to heart failure. Another way that sepsis and post sepsis causes heart failure is through the adrenal dysfunction. The limbic system regulates our blood pressure and heart rate. A healthy adrenal system is required for this. This is where the real harm comes in because adrenal dysfunction also causes excess blood clotting and blood vessels can constrict, now add to the fact the inflammation and oxidative stress is interfering with the limbic system and adrenals to interact with each other to properly regulate the cardiovascular system and a person because prone to heart failure or stroke. There are many other ways that sepsis and post sepsis can cause heart failure to numerous to continue but these are the most common causes. I am stating this to let people know the importance of not ignoring these things. They need addressed and corrected.
Because the body experiences oxygen deprivation from the restricted blood flow throughout body causes organ damage, damage to the brain and neurological damage. The neurological damage in itself can cause death. Now ad to the fact that pain has been shown to cause things to occur in the body that can result in death. Mitochondrial function get upregulated during sepsis and down regulated and even inhibited during post sepsis. So if we do things that would increase certain mitochondrial processes during sepsis it could increase the persons mortality. For example when a person is in a state of sepsis increasing ATP levels increases mortality but when in a state of post sepsis increasing ATP can speed up healing. In post sepsis usually mitochondria function is inhibited so increasing it can speed up recovery but in full on sepsis increasing certain mitochondrial function can increase mortality. I will try to cover the best I can how to distinguish between the two though some things do overlap in sepsis and post sepsis for example often times oxidative stress and systemic inflammation levels are still high in both.
Now I will try my best to describe the symptoms of sepsis and test that can be used to detect when someone has sepsis.
Fast heart rate or an irregular heart beat
Temperature dis-regulation some may have a fever some may be hypothermic.
Warm or clammy skin or excessive sweating.
Mental confusion , feeling disoriented, or disassociation
Dizziness
Rapid breathing or shortness of breath and at times it may be difficult to take a breath.
Muscle weakness.
Difficulty waking up.
Skin rash, skin burning or severe itching.
If severe enough seizures.
Some test that can be used to detect if a person has sepsis.
Excessively high or low glucose or insulin levels.
Difficulty urinating.
Back pain which is caused by a variety of issues.
Irregular heart beat which can cause dizziness when walking or standing.
Sudden sharp or burning pain in the chest.
Difficulty breathing especially when lying down.
Anciety, fear, flash backs, even paranoia from the increased brain inflammation. This can also cause depression and suicidal thoughts.
Ok test that can be used to determine if someone has sepsis . Now some of these test also overlap with post sepsis.
Vassopressin levels it becomes impaired during sepsis.
Glucose and insulin levels
A complete thyroid test even testing for reverse T3. Usually reverse T3 is low and T4 levels are high. Thyroid hormone levels usually become decreased.
Testing cortisol levels . Cortisol is usually high.
During sepsis Growth hormone levels are usually high.
Often times white blood cell count is high in sepsis.
Low red blood cell count or high red blood cell count which often times gets mistaken for leukemia.
Liver function should be tested because it becomes impaired during sepsis. Bilirubin and creatine should be tested.
Lactic acid levels usually become high during sepsis.
Inflammatory cytokines such as C-reactive, IL-3, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, MCP-1, MMP-9, IL-13 and TNF-a.
Troponin, natriutetic peptides and myoglobin to check for myocardial dysfunction.
Arterial blood gases to test pulmonary function.
Prothrombin time and partial thromboplastin time, platelet count when low it indicates excess blood clotting. D-dimer can also indicate if blood is clotting excessively.
The type of sepsis is important to determine it is from infection or to rule out infection a test for endotoxins can be done. It is non specific but it will indicate if an infection is present.
If procalcitonin is high it can indicate there is a bacteria infection present.
IGF-1 is low during sepsis.
Catecholamine levels become high during sepsis. (dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine)
Glutamine levels become low but increase in the brain because it’s uptake into the cells becomes inhibited. This can cause glutamate toxicity in the brain. Increasing glutamate levels during sepsis increases risk of mortality.
Copeptin is usually high in sepsis which makes it difficult to urinate.
Leptin levels are usually high during sepsis.
Luteinizing hormone releasing hormone is usually high during sepsis which increases B-endorphin and GABA.
Ok now lets cover Post Sepsis . Many of the symptoms of sepsis and post sepsis overlap for example usually the systemic inflammation and oxidative stress levels remain high. So the organ damage, brain inflammation and immune dysfunction remain but the symptoms will change because often times the organ damage causes hormone changes that are different in sepsis. For example the adrenals, liver and kidney function has because lower so those hormones and enzymes will be different then that found in sepsis. Mitochondrial respiration and other mitochondrial functions have become inhibited in post sepsis. In sepsis it usually becomes upregulated so the causes of oxidative stress between sepsis and post sepsis are different.
Some symptoms that may be found in post sepsis.
Difficulty sleeping or difficulty staying asleep.
Fatigue, lethargy.
Sever muscle and joint pain. Poor muscle function, muscles will be tight and difficult to move.
Swelling in limbs
Susceptibility to repeat infections.
Hair loss
skin rashes or burning skin
many of the psychological symptoms carry over to post sepsis such as anxiety attack, memory flash backs, nightmares or strange dreams that make no sense, difficulty concentrating, memory loss
Most medical professionals do not even acknowledge sepsis. They send patients home and either they are not concerned or lack the knowledge to be able to identify when they have caused sepsis or they are trying to hide their error. Studies have shown that most who have had sepsis get sent home and have no farther support or resources which increases their mortality. Now add to this , the fact that those with sepsis appear to be healthy so they get ostracized and criticized by family. They do not get the support they need and often time family adds burdens to them that not only hinder their healing but because of the stress, depression and physical demands it can send them back into sepsis this is why those who have survived sepsis have a 40% mortality rate. They lack the support and resources needed for them to heal. When a person is suffering from sepsis any emotion even positive can put a physical demand on the body because their body and brain are in survival mode. Yet they say that those who have post sepsis have lost their minds and are isolating themselves, or they are neglecting family when they are actually trying to survive. Those with post sepsis are on a teeter totter. They can quickly develop sepsis again and each time it takes longer to recover. Little things add up and can help a person to get over the hill and start to recover but very few have the support they need to focus on those little things. I cannot get into details when I say little things because the list is long but one of them is when a person is showing memory loss or being irritable they are struggling and need help with some of the normal everyday burdens that are usually easy for others to do. They become mountains for someone suffering from post sepsis syndrome.
It would take me a very long time to show what happens and why with post sepsis. The mitochondria is the little factories of the body which are involved in almost everything in the body. In post sepsis the mitochondria shrinks and molecules can not longer be transferred into and out of the mitochondria. It slows the bodies processes down. In order to get the mitochondria functioning again. The inflammation, oxidative stress, metabolic issues and many other things have to be corrected. It takes very specific nutrients for the person and a lot of self discipline. A person can recover from post sepsis but it takes time persistence and a lot of learning. There are many things that occur in sepsis and it takes very specific nutrients to get things functioning correctly again. For example often times the pituitary, adrenals, thyroids and hypothalamus become damaged. It takes time and very specific nutrients and protocols to promote their healing. This causes many hormones to get out of balance like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, adrenal hormones, many hormones needed for proper brain function. The gut becomes damage and the microbes in the gut become out of balance and need corrected.
If these things are not corrected a person will develop cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, autoimmunity and many other chronic illnesses. There are not test for post sespsis but test for things such as CIRS also known as SIRS can help to determine what needs addressed.
Hormone test, complete thyroid test and adrenal hormone test along with testing for CIRS can help to determine if a person has post sepsis. It can persist for years especially if the health problems that contributed to it are not addressed. A person can recover if they are diligent.
These are test for CIRS
Vassoactive intestinal peptide – this is usually low in post sepsis.
Transforming Growth Factor Beta 1 (TGF-b1) usually increased in post sepsis and CIRS. It is involved in cell division and cell death.
Melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH) controls the pigment of the skin, regulates how much cytokines can be produced. Usually low in post sepsis and CIRS. If it is low the production of inflammatory cytokines cannot be shut down.
C4a – when levels are high it indicates systemic inflammation.
Adrenocoricotropic hormone (ACTG) regulates cortisol levels. It is usually low in post sepsis and CIRS.
Anti-gliaden antibodies (AGH, IgE, IgA) – triggered in response to mold toxins, inflammation and gluten sensitivity. It can also indicate gut inflammation.
Cortisol usually low in post sepsis and CIRS.
Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) – Stimulates blood vessel formation. Is usually low in post sepsis and CIRS.
Leptin – helps regulate fat storage in the body. Excess inflammation causes leptin resistance which can increase levels of leptin. This can cause excess weight gain and diabetes.
Anti-cardiolipin antibodies (ACLA) , IgA, IgG, IgM – high in autoimmune disease. Indicates high levels of inflammation. If these are high it indicates the body is attacking healthy tissue.
Antidiuretic hormone – it is responsible for regulation of the balance of water in your body, blood pressure, and concentration of urine being produced in the kidney. Reduced levels of ADH couldn indicate dehydration or excess urinating.
Little things really mean a lot when it comes to healing. Reducing stress, or try to deal with stress in a less negative way. Family and friends can help by reducing stress as much as possible. When someone has CIRS or post sepsis it is like being on a teeter totter. It does not take much to set their health back for weeks. What little progress they have made can easily be set back and they have to start climbing the figurative ladder over again.
There are things that can indicate someone with CIRS or post sepsis is starting to back slide with their health or need to take a rest. If they start getting irritable or absent minded, confused or disoriented it means they need to rest. The adrenals and other organs in the body have become damaged and take a very long time to heal. Even positive social interactions take a lot when it comes to adrenals and physical energy. When someone who is interacting socially either in life or online and you see those things start to occur it means they need some alone time and need time to let their adrenals and energy levels recover. If they keep pushing through it they will get set back and be in a very bad way for a while. Much of the progress they made will be lost.
It is very important to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. The body requires higher amounts of certain nutrients so it is very important to get the proper nutrients the body needs. There are very specific supplements that can help the body to heal. Not all functional medicine practitioners are the same. So find one who has a proven track record of success. Do not skip meals. Fasting can be injuries when a person is dealing with CIRS or post sespsis and it can set the persons health back. Taking the wrong supplements can cause harm also so they need to be will researched and make certain they would be what is best. If in doubt don’t.
A person may recover enough to function but if the health issues are not addressed they will be prone to many types of illnesses, from allergies, food intolerance, interstitial cystitis, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, autoimmunity and even cancer. Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in those with post sepsis and CIRS. It is very important to get the hormone levels straightened out, reduce the excess blood clotting, reduce the inflammation and oxidative stress. All these alone contribute to hear damage, strokes , neurological damage that can cause the heart to fail, imbalances in the minerals in the body which can cause the heart to beat irregular. Stress, to much emotional interactions, over doing it physically, and many other things can increase the risk of those things occurring. When you are healing it is very important to realize you have limits even on days you feel good and set those limit and do not pass them even if you feel well. They add up and will catch up with you and can set you back.
It is good to do things like listen to music, color in coloring books, do puzzles, do word games, read some jokes laughing is very healing. Going in nature has been found to promote healing. There are many things a person and their family can do that can promote healing. Little things mean a lot. They add up and can help someone get over the hill so they can fully recover.
Often times because those with CIRS and post sepsis do not look ill and we can put on a good front in pretending we are well they will not realize how ill the person really is. That is why if you see the person tripping a lot, getting disoriented, absent minded or irritable. They may start sitting down a lot . Their breathing may speed up. It means they need rest and most likely need to be alone for a while so their adrenal hormones can also recover. Sometimes those who are chronically ill just want to be normal again. I did it to myself often but I was fortunate and had two friends that were aware of what I was doing to myself and would make me slow down and rest and take time to myself to recover. So the person who is ill may need others to watch out for them. Those who are ill try so hard to be normal again or just to function that they will often times push themselves too much and end up setting themselves back so much it may take days or weeks to recover.
When a person has post sepsis or CIRS their immune system is barely functioning. When I was very ill people would come near me with colds or sore throats. I easily picked these infections up even when I kept my distance. This would set me back for weeks. Sometimes I would even end up bedridden for days. Even when a person who is ill has restored immune function the damage the infection causes to the persons body sets the back physically and makes them lose a lot of the work they have done to heal.
I personally struggled eating properly because most food especially GMOs are very damaging to the body. If I would eat them I would become very very ill and it would set me back. Most people do not understand this. I would have them go shopping and put very specific brands on the list but if they could not find those brands they would replace them with GMOs. I could not eat them. If I went shopping myself I would be too exhausted to cook so often times would not eat for a day which would set me back health wise. Eating three meals a day became a major struggle for me when I was ill. For some who experience type 1 diabetes type symptoms they may have to eat a bunch of small meal a day to keep their energy levels up so they do not back slide.
The main thing is working on getting the mitochondria repaired first. Then work on the immune system. If you repair the immune system before the mitochondria is functioning adequately it can make the person very ill. They need the mitochondria to be functioning to launch a proper immune response. One if the most important things about healing is addressing the excess blood clotting and neurological damage. These cause organ and brain damage that will continue until proper blood flow is restored and neurological function is corrected.
I did a blog post that explains you can heal and at the end of it , I explain how to find someone who can help you learn to heal. Allopathic medicine only treats the symptoms and if you compare the research from those treated with allopathic medicine the outcome is usually not good it usually end in death. If you look at the outcome from those who have been treated with functional medicine they have recovered and lived a productive life. Allopathic medicine only treats the symptoms, functional medicine treats the cause. I explain in much better detail in the article in this link. This link also show there are labs that will let your order test online. https://iamajuicer.wordpress.com/2021/05/28/how-to-get-off-the-medical-hamster-wheel/
