Benefits of betaine.

Betaine (trimethylglycine)

Betaine is needed by the body to recycle certain proteins. If we are deficient in betaine we may develop high ammonia levels and toxic levels of glutamine in the brain. Betaine is also involved in sulfation. If betaine levels are low it can effect our BH4 and CBS pathways which can result in many health issues. The adrenals will not be able to function properly and our hormone levels will be off. Often times in women this can result in low progesterone. Taking betaine along with Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P) , B12, molybdenum and manganese can help correct these issues. If they are not corrected a person will develop sensitivity to high sulfur foods and meat. Just a not betaine is sometimes called TMG by supplement producers. Do not get TMG HCL it is man made. Betaine aids in digestion and increases the absorption of certain nutrients like vitamin B12. Betaine helps to prevent homocysteine levels from getting too high. Beatine helps break down fatty acids in the liver and is involved in helping the body to detox. Betaine hastens the speed of increased muscle mass and improves muscle recovery time. Betaine improves cardiovascular health. Betaine reduces the risk of diabetes, obesity and Alzheimers. It helps reduce muscle aches and pains. Betaine is needed for proper skin hydration. If betaine levels are low a person can develop high homocysteine levels. Elevated homocysteine levels can cause excess blood clotting. Low levels of B vitamines especially folate can also cause high homosysteine levels.

Symptoms of high homocysteine levels are dizziness, fatigue, pale complexion, tingling in your hands or arms, tongue or mouth soreness. When levels get too high skin and eyes can start to turn yellow. It can lead to osteoporosis, heart failure or stroke. It can also cause dementia, ADHD, headaches, depression, mood swings, and eventually lead to Alzheimers.

Betaine helps fight viral infection. Type 1 interferon is inhibited by herpes viruses and by hepatitis viruses and many others. Betaine restores proper interferon function. This restores the ability to fight viral infections. Betaine also helps reduce the effects of endotoxins on the body.

It should not be used by pregnant women it can cause the placenta to break down.
