Neglecting the sick can have serious consequences.

The bible tells us we are to take care of our families. It did not just state provide but take care of them. This means we are to keep them a safe as we can , take care of their health when needed, take care of emotional and physical needs. This does not mean we are only to provide for them. Jesus offered comfort when possible, told others how to reduce their burdens emotionally and physically and even set the example of how we are to be humble about it by washing the disciples feet.

When someone is ill we are to do our best to help them and take care of them. Jesus made it clear we are to take care of the sick. We are to carry each others burdens in doing so we are fulfilling the law of Christ. If we do not take care of families and help carry their burdens our prayers may not be answered. The bible tells us those who are strong should bear the weakness of those who are not strong. This indicates we are to carry one who is weaker burdens for them.

Not taking care of the lowly one or afflicted one is part of the reason Sodom was destroyed by God. If we do not take care of family in need how much more may that make us lose favor in God’s eyes? Now only will it result in our prayers not being heard it could result in our destruction.

God set a standard showing if our neglect or reckless behavior resulted in someones losing their life or becoming injured then we were to make restitution and in some instances the guilty party could have paid with their life. If we neglect those who are ill or we are careless and it causes them more suffering or even cost their life the bible shows we would incur bloodguilt. For example the bible tells us if we do not warn someone of sin we could incur bloodguilt. So this shows that we are to help with all aspects of a persons health including the spiritual health. The bible actually commands us to rescue those in distress.

By doing our best to imitate Jesus and the love he showed setting an example for us to follow , we may conquer the world and we demonstrate our faith. Love should guide all we do.

(1 Timothy 5:7, 8) ⁸ Certainly if anyone does not provide for those who are his own, and especially for those who are members of his household, he has disowned the faith and is worse than a person without faith.

He said to him: “Lord, are you washing my feet?” ⁷ Jesus answered him: “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will understand after these things.” ⁸ Peter said to him: “You will certainly never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him: “Unless I wash you, you have no share with me.” ⁹ Simon Peter said to him: “Lord, wash not only my feet but also my hands and my head.” ¹⁰ Jesus said to him: “Whoever has bathed does not need to have more than his feet washed, but is completely clean. And you men are clean, but not all of you.. . .

(Matthew 25:34-40) ³⁴ “Then the King will say to those on his right: ‘Come, you who have been blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world. ³⁵ For I became hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you received me hospitably; ³⁶ naked and you clothed me. I fell sick and you looked after me. I was in prison and you visited me.’ ³⁷ Then the righteous ones will answer him with the words: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? ³⁸ When did we see you a stranger and receive you hospitably, or naked and clothe you? ³⁹ When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ ⁴⁰ In reply the King will say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.

(Galatians 6:2-5) ² Go on carrying the burdens of one another, and in this way you will fulfill the law of the Christ. ³ For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he is deceiving himself. ⁴ But let each one examine his own actions, and then he will have cause for rejoicing in regard to himself alone, and not in comparison with the other person. ⁵ For each one will carry his own load.

(Romans 15:1-3) 15 We, though, who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those not strong, and not to be pleasing ourselves. ² Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. ³ For even the Christ did not please himself. . .

(Ezekiel 16:48-50) . . .. ⁴⁹ Look! This was the error of Sodʹom your sister: She and her daughters were proud and had an abundance of food and carefree tranquillity; yet they did not support the afflicted and the poor. ⁵⁰ They remained haughty and carried on detestable practices in my sight, so I found it necessary to remove them.

(Proverbs 21:12, 13) . . .He overthrows the wicked to their ruin. ¹³ Whoever stops up his ear to the cry of the lowly one Will himself call and not be answered. . .

(Matthew 25:41-46) ⁴¹ “Then he will say to those on his left: ‘Go away from me, you who have been cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels. ⁴² For I became hungry, but you gave me nothing to eat; and I was thirsty, but you gave me nothing to drink. ⁴³ I was a stranger, but you did not receive me hospitably; naked, but you did not clothe me; sick and in prison, but you did not look after me.’ ⁴⁴ Then they too will answer with the words: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to you?’ ⁴⁵ Then he will answer them, saying: ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of these least ones, you did not do it to me.’ ⁴⁶ These will depart into everlasting cutting-off, but the righteous ones into everlasting life.

(Ezekiel 3:17-21) ¹⁷ “Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman to the house of Israel; and when you hear a word from my mouth, you must warn them from me. ¹⁸ When I say to someone wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him, and you fail to speak in order to warn the wicked one to turn from his wicked course so that he may stay alive, he will die for his error because he is wicked, but I will ask his blood back from you. ¹⁹ But if you warn someone wicked and he does not turn back from his wickedness and from his wicked course, he will die for his error, but you will certainly save your own life. ²⁰ But when someone righteous abandons his righteousness and does what is wrong, I will put a stumbling block before him and he will die. (Deuteronomy 22:8) ⁸ “If you build a new house, you must also make a parapet for your roof, so that you may not bring bloodguilt on your house because of someone falling from it.

(Proverbs 24:9-12)  ⁹ Foolish schemes are sinful, And people detest a ridiculer. ¹⁰ If you become discouraged in the day of distress, Your strength will be meager. ¹¹ Rescue those who are being taken away to death, And hold back those staggering to the slaughter. ¹² If you say, “But we did not know about this,” Does not the One who examines hearts discern it? Yes, the One who watches you will know And will repay each man according to his activity.

(1 John 5:1-4) 5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born from God, and everyone who loves the one who caused to be born loves him who has been born from that one. ² By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and carry out his commandments. ³ For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome, ⁴ because everyone who has been born from God conquers the world. And this is the conquest that has conquered the world, our faith. . .

(1 Corinthians 13:4-7) ⁴ Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous. It does not brag, does not get puffed up, ⁵ does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. ⁶ It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. ⁷ It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
