Pumpkin seed oil (cucurbita spp)
Most know that pumpkin itself has amazing health benefits. I am going to cover pumpkin seed oil itself and the benefits of it.
When you look at the composition of the variety of types of fats in pumpkin seed it is amazing. It has some of the most healing fats. It actually contains such a variety of oils that it would take consuming oils from at least six other seed oils to get all the types of beneficial fats found in pumpkin seed oil. The fats found in pumpkin seed oil have been found to help prevent inflammatory and autoimmunity because of their ability to balance the immune system and reduce inflammation. It also contains two very potent antioxidants lutein and beta carotene. It also has many other phytochemicals that have been found to be very potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidants. Just a note most squashes have very similar chemical composition in their seeds. Pumpkins seed oil has the perfect combination of nutrients needed to heal the bladder and the gut. Because pumpkins seed oil is so high in antioxidants it is often times used as a preservative to prevent excess oxidation. It has a very long shelf life.
Pumpkin seed oil has very good healing properties. It helps to protect and heal the renal system including the bladder. It helps to reduce prostate inflammation. It help improve the capacity of the bladder which would prevent frequent urinating.
Because pumpkin seed has such potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant abilities it helps to protect the heart and prevent cardiovascular disease. Pumpkin seed oil also increases nitric oxide which would help to prevent high blood pressure.
Pumpkin seed contains gamma tocopherol which is a unique form of vitamin E found to reduce inflammation as effectively as NSAIDs. Another things unique to y-tocopherol is that it actually increases levels of the other forms of vitamin E where as other forms of vitamin E compete with each other and will reduce the levels of the other. This is one of the reasons pumpkin seed oil is so effective at reducing cardiovascular disease, prostate inflammation and inflammatory disease.
Pumpkin seed and seed oil reduces the risk of getting many types of cancer.
Because of over farming and the use of toxic farm chemicals most foods are low in minerals causing many to be deficient in many nutrients. Magnesium deficiency has been found to be very common and cause many health problems. Pumpkin seed oil is very high in minerals especially magnesium. Low magnesium causes insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. It is also high in zinc. Zinc is needed to regulate hormones and the immune system. Zinc and magnesium improves the quality of sleep.
Because of the nutrient content in pumpkin seed oil it dramatically improves hair growth and hair health.
Pumpkins seed oil is also high in phytochemicals that have been found to improve eye health and brain health. It has also been found to help reverse rheumatoid arthritis.
Pumpkin seed oil seems to have very few side effects though I have seen some get nauseated from it. I believe they were consuming excess amounts of it. Anything in excess can have negative effects on the body.
https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/seed-cyclingEach type of seed has it’s own benefits, this is why I believe it is better to alternate between the types of seed oils used. For example alternate between taking flax seed oil, sesame seed oil, pumpkins seed oil, and sunflower oil or even consuming the seeds has been found to help normalize hormone levels more quickly then just taking one of the oils or consuming one type of seed.
