Reishi mushroom has been shown to have potent inhibitory properties against herpes viruses but in my opinion I would not use it until inflammation and oxidative stress were addressed. It has been shown to be effective against many types of gut infections. It helps with diabetes by reducing oxidative stress. It has been found to reduce aches and pains in the body. It has been shown to increase blood oxygen levels and improve asthma. It increases nerve growth factor which improves brain function. It boost energy levels and prevents depression and anxiety. Side effects are itchy or dry mouth, bloody stools and other digestive issues. It should be used in moderation. Balance is the key to healing. It can cause insomnia and liver damage. Almost any nutrient in high amounts will have side effects and can cause damage to the body.
